Ultra Violette Sheen Screen lip balm: which shades have octinoxate, and the one FDA label that contradicts itself
Ultra Violette sells four Sheen Screen lip balms in the US. They sit next to each other at $22 each, they are all SPF 50, and the pages describe them by shade. They are not one formula. Two are filed with the FDA using octinoxate. One is filed using octisalate in its place. And the fourth label says both, in two different places on the same document.
We are reporting what the filings say and where they disagree. We are not saying any of these filters is better or worse, and we do not describe what any of them does.

Silk Pillow's label says octinoxate in one place and octisalate in another
A US drug label has two layers. There is the printed Active ingredients panel, the part that is meant to reproduce what is on the packaging. And there is a structured ingredient table underneath, the machine-readable data the FDA's own databases are built from. On Silk Pillow's label those two layers disagree.
- The printed Active ingredients panel reads "AVOBENZONE 3.0%, OCTINOXATE 5%, OCTOCRYLENE 4.7%"
- The structured ingredient table lists octisalate, 5 g in 100 g - no octinoxate anywhere in it
The listing title DailyMed shows for this label follows the printed panel and says octinoxate. The National Drug Code Directory is built from the structured table, so it says octisalate. Two federal databases therefore report different filters for the same product, because they are reading different halves of one document.
We cannot tell you which one is in the tube. Only the company knows, and it has published nothing about it. What we can say is that the contradiction is inside the filing itself, it has been there since the label was filed on May 1, 2026, and it is already spreading: a search for these products returns the octinoxate version of the ingredient list.
Last Bite, filed the same day, has no such problem. Its printed panel and its structured table both say octisalate.
The two older shades were not reformulated
Dusk and Bejewelled were first filed on December 1, 2024 with octinoxate, and their labels were republished on August 31, 2026, now at version 5. The actives did not change. Both still list avobenzone 3%, octinoxate 5% and octocrylene 4.7%. So the difference between the shades is not a line-wide reformulation that has yet to reach them; it is a difference that exists right now, on the shelf, at one price.
The product page does not name the filters
On the brand's US product page, the "What's Inside" panel describes "Broad-spectrum UV filters" and then lists lanolin, cocoa butter and vitamin E. It does not name the UV filters. There is a "Full Ingredients" control on the page; it did not open for us on September 9, 2026, so we did not read what is behind it and we do not claim the information is unavailable there.
If a particular filter matters to you, the shade you choose decides whether you get it, and the shade names carry no hint of that. The FDA filing is the record that does say, and anyone can read it.
What we could not confirm
- Which filter is actually in Silk Pillow. Its own label answers the question twice, differently.
- Whether the packaging in the shop matches the printed panel or the structured table. We did not buy one.
- What is behind the "Full Ingredients" control on the product page.
- Which sizes the store sells. The filings give 7 g and 15 g for the older two and 15 g for the newer two; the product pages do not state a size.
- Whether other retailers list the same filters. Sephora's site returned a bot-protection page instead of results on the day we checked.
